Outdoor Learning- Survival Skills

This term, Primary 6, have decided to progress their Outdoor Learning skills to learn about survival skills. This week we have been learning about fire safety and how to build a fire. We learnt about the fire triangle (combustion triangle) and the class collected their own kindling and sticks from Castle Gardens. Each group were successful at building their own fire and manage to light it using flint and steel. The group fire didn’t burn for long, but we were able to use our new skills to build a larger fire and managed to toast marshmallows on it.

We focused on how to stay safe at each part of fire building and learnt how to extinguish a fire safely and effectively. We will continue to develop our survival skills by learning different knots and den building, as well as whittling.
